Mediation in divorce, compared to solicitors and courts
As anyone who has previously been involved in a legal dispute will be aware, the costs of legal action can rapidly mount and within a family law setting it is not unusual for disputes about finances or arrangements for the children to cost well in excess of £10,000-£20,000 per person.
At Godalming Family Mediation we offer competitive and transparent rates whilst also offering a very high quality service. Our rates are as follows and please also refer to the notes under the table:
|Mediation||£100 per person per hour||£125 per person per hour|
|MIAM with letter to other party and signing of court form||£150||£200|
|Co-mediation||£150 per person per hour||£175 per person per hour|
- There is no VAT to add to these rates.
- “MIAM” stands for a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting.
- Co-mediation is when there is a second mediator present during some or all of the session, perhaps to bring in some specialist expertise or to ensure that the room dynamics are balanced.
We aim to reach a conclusion to the mediation process within approximately 2 to 4 sessions of 1 to 2 hours each. Depending upon the nature of the issues, it may be necessary for some documents to be drafted to set out the outcomes of the mediation process, for which the same hourly rate is charged and it can be expected that this will take approximately 2 to 4 hours per person to prepare. This means that the final cost of resolution through mediation is invariably only a small fraction of the potential cost of resolving matters through solicitors and / or the Courts.
It is important to understand that in more complicated cases it may be necessary to run additional sessions. It may also be possible to facilitate agreements within a single session for more straightforward matters and we are committed to keeping you updated on the likely costs on a regular basis as we proceed through the mediation process with you.
